Therapists & Groups

There are now over 25 support groups across the country organised by HoardingUK and Hoarding Disorders UK (click to view support group locations). Please check in advance before attending, as many are currently only able to offer on-line or telephone support due to COVID-19 guidelines. If there is no group listed in your area, please check with your GP about local support which may be available to you.

Find Therapist

There are many different types of therapy available, in addition to those which you may be referred to by your GP. 

They may all benefit number of conditions so please ask whether the practitioner is experienced working with people that have your particular concerns. 

Below are few suggestions. In my experience, certain therapies may work well for some individuals but not for others, so please don't give up if you've tried one and it didn't work for you. 

  • You can get reduced priced therapies with no waiting lists by visiting Anxiety UK and they also have helpline open Mon-Fri 09.30-17.30 Tel: 08444 775 774.
  • Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) has been very effective for my mum and combines tapping on specific acupressure points with structured dialogue. Find certified practitioner in your area here or try our self help videos created with Cathryn Deyn, an EFT practitioner that previously worked with my mum. Read her article on Hoarding here.
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy can be helpful in changing your thought process with regard to hoarding. To find therapist in your area go to CBT Register UK or ask your Doctor.
  • Find information & details of counsellors or psychotherapists that deal with hoarding on the Counselling Directory.

  • Some people with hoarding behaviours have found EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) very helpful in reprocessing experiences that may have triggered their hoarding. For more information and to find therapist visit the EMDR Association.
